Rome Wanderings
So much for staying awake past 8 p.m. but we slept well enough to fuel a day of wandering. Breakfast was wonderful: croissants from Roscioli, plus eggs, meats,
cheeses and fabulous cappuccino’s.
We visited the Mouth of Truth for the obligatory photo and afterwards wandered into Trastevere’s quiet morning streets.

Lunch was light — a shared sandwich with wonderfully
crispy, salty bread .

Later we discovered a fabulous Flower exhibit at Chiostro Del Bramante near Piazza Navona. Andy wasn’t too keen but was a good sport and came with me.
He was very pleasantly surprised to find that he really enjoyed it and raved about it afterwards. It’s fun to go
off the beaten path and find new adventures.

As the evening drew to a close we enjoyed dinner in an outdoor restaurant at Campo d’Fiori to people watch and enjoy the ambiance. Wine and pasta, obviously. Gelato made another appearance: orange chocolate and pistachio. Routine is established: walk, eat, repeat.

Afterwards we came back to our hotel and stood in line what seemed like forever for another taste of that yummy pizza from across the street. We ordered pesto pizza and two of the Arancini “Italian rice balls”. We could have eaten a plate
full of just these, they
were so good!
There was nowhere to eat comfortably so our concierge let us into a little fenced off area in the front of the hotel. What a treat to enjoy our lunch with a nice refreshing Fanta. We felt very special and could people watch at our hearts content.
The next day we were to meet our tour group at around 4:00 so the day was ours until then. We met some lovely fellow Rick Steves travellers this morning but unfortunately they are on the tour that started two days later than ours. We walked to the Victorio Emmanuelle monument and climbed what seemed like hundreds of stairs. Fabulous views of Rome from the top.
